From the President The other night on the evening weather forecast the weatherman reported that we had gone 56 consecutive days at 90 degrees plus. I do not recall if he said that had broken any records or not. It really does not matter; it’s just been hot for a long time. The Old Farmer’s Almanac says the Dog Days of Summer lasts for forty days starting July 3rd and ending August 11th. We seemed to have added a few days. In many respects it has reminded me of winter in Illinois - we would have stretches of cold weather where very few people ventured outdoors. Here it was simply too hot to do anything outside, the result is the same: cabin fever. All said and done, give me the hot weather and not the cold that goes to the bone and stays with you for days. Hopefully, fall is just around the corner.
Drainage projects are on schedule. To date, eight projects have been completed and a time table has been developed for the remaining approved projects, which should be completed by the end of September. Due to hard work by the Drainage Committee and Hagan Wagoner of ProgreCiv Group, several projects have been completed under budget. This was accomplished by careful staging on similar projects. Also some alternative methods were used to correct some drainage problems, without sacrificing the quality or longevity of the repair. As a result, we may be able to complete more projects within this year’s budget than originally planned.
Remodeling of the SWRA Centre is nearing completion; we hope to be finished by mid October. At the last SWRA Board of Directors’ meeting, it was pointed out by the treasurer, Mike Dollar, that SWRA Centre’s electric bills were substantially under what we had budgeted for this year. This is an indication that all the measures taken to make the Centre more energy efficient are already beginning to pay dividends. These savings are truly significant when you consider that during the construction period, more doors were left open while bringing in materials, power tools in use, etc.
In this rather bleak economy there is good news in StillWaters, during the last month there were thirteen property transfers. This includes lots, homes, and condo sales. Hopefully this is a sign of a turn around, or maybe more people are discovering our community is a great place to live.
Have a safe Labor Day Weekend. Eb Spink, President SWRA
