I know that this sounds like a broken record, but people are still speeding up as they approach the gates, not giving the built-in safety devices time to react. Please slow down when approaching the gates; they will function properly, eliminating most problems. As you may know, you can now activate Gate 34 further back with your remote device. When you do this and then speed up to stay within the 8 second delay, you take a chance of getting hit by the gate. Activating too early can cause you to approach at a faster speed, making gate impacts more likely. Please use normal, slow approaches, so that we do not need to install a speed bump.
       Several years ago, the Board of Directors established a Quiet Time from 10PM to 7AM seven days a week. Please respect your neighbors and observe this board ruling. Please ask party guests to respect our rules after 10 PM. Use of lawn mowers and leaf blowers before 7AM should be avoided. The 10PM noise curfew will be enforced by the Roving Patrol on weekends.
       Since June’s newsletter, we have issued two more housing permits, both in the Deer Run area. One is a spec home and the other is already sold. Jimmy and Jane Ferguson have recently relocated from Texas to StillWaters and have started their new home on Deer Run Road. Welcome to StillWaters, Jimmy and Jane. The ARC welcomes it’s newest member, George Brady. George and his wife Joan have relocated from Florida after three years of sweating out hurricanes. They will soon start their new home here in StillWaters.
       The paving repair work will begin soon. So, please be on the lookout for their equipment and men on the ground. Avoid the streets that are being paved if possible. Drive very carefully in the vicinity of the work. (See the paving report elsewhere in this edition.)
       By July 4th, we expect that the new flag pole and flags will be flying at both Gate 49 and Gate 34. We will also have a new flag pole at the Admin. Building. All three locations will fly our new StillWaters Flag. Gate 34’s three poles will fly the Alabama flag, the StillWaters flag, and our American flag.
       You may know that Harbor Pointe has closed their boat ramp for use by the public. If you store your boat at the marina, you may still be able to use the ramp. Check with the Marina management. For weekenders, and others who have need of a ramp, the closest public boat ramp is in the Paces Point area out toward the end of County Road 34 (on the left). Look for the sign. There is a public ramp at the end of Centerport Road, off Highway 50. This same road leads to Chuck’s Marina.
       Even though several have already written about the fire at Sunset Point, I would like to make a few comments. It is totally amazing how three different fire departments with ten pieces of apparatus and 39 men and women can work that closely in a very crowded area and get the job done, all without any formal combined training. My hat’s off to all three departments for a job well done. At the start of the incident four firemen responded. More followed as the alarm news spread. We realize that StillWaters could use more volunteers, especially those who can respond during the day when others are at work. Contact the department if you would like to participate in a great service to your community. Training is free, and you get to wear that neat turnout gear that you see on TV. With training they may even let you drive the big red trucks! Hot off the press, another structure fire occurred on June 30th around 6 AM as StillWaters Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded to a fire call on Shadow Lane. They contained the fire to one room and promptly extinguished it with little damage to the rest of the house, other than possible smoke damage. Your mutual aid department, Pace’s Point also responded to the call. The next time you see one of our volunteers, stop them and shake their hands and let them know how much you appreciate all that they do for this community.
       Finally, Sunday night around 8:30PM, during the thunder storm, heavy winds felled a tall pine tree onto the main power lines along StillWaters Drive at Oakwood Lake, causing a power outage for almost 3 hours. The power company was called. They responded, removed the tree, and restored electric power. Thank you, Alabama Power!

The StillWaters Residential Association Website is for homeowners in the StillWaters Development providing current news, upcoming events, and other information to keep everyone informed.

Please note all property sold in StillWaters has a transfer fee of $300, this should be paid at closing and sent to the SWRA office along with a copy of the warranty deed of the new owner. All property in StillWaters has a yearly maintenance fee which is determined by the covenant the property is under and is due in January each year and delinquent February 1. $50 will be added on past due accounts on Feb. 10th. Fees not paid by March 10th will be handled by a collection agency or legal action.
